COMMUNITY
The North American Coal Corporation strives to be a good corporate citizen. This is evidenced in our commitment to protecting the environment and restoring land, and in making a positive contribution to communities where our operations are located.
- We prefer to hire local residents in order to support the people and the economies of our communities.
- We make every effort to buy goods and services from local merchants.
- We encourage our employees to get involved in civic and community affairs.
- We invite local schools and citizens to attend tours of our mining operations.
- We support community organizations and projects.
Some of the community projects we support are:
- Falkirk Mine's Teacher Seminars – educating teachers on the process of lignite mining and electricity generation in North Dakota.
- Coteau Mine's Presentations to Schools – educating elementary and high school students on the positive aspects of coal mining. Coteau also awards an annual Lignite Scholarship in the North Dakota Science Fair.
- Sabine Mine's Sponsorship of Science Teachers – supporting teachers at the Annual Texas Mining and Reclamation Associations’ Earth Science Teachers’ Seminar.
